Go Slow to go far

As creative entrepreneurs, we often live in a paradox: our work is fuelled by energy, inspiration, and flow, yet the very things that spark our creativity - adventure, connection, and ideas - can also leave us exhausted if we don’t make space to rest.

Over the past few months, I’ve been learning this lesson firsthand. Since moving to beautiful Scotland, life has been a whirlwind- adventures, travel, projects, and wonderful people. Italy, Bali, Budapest, Jordan… each place has been a gift, and I’m deeply grateful.

And yet, for the past couple of months, I’ve felt the biggest pull toward alone time, rest, and recovery. If you’re an introvert, you’ll get this. I’ve spent so much time with people - and while I adore humans -I also crave solitude.

For months, I tried to override that need. And let me tell you… overriding what your heart and nervous system needs doesn’t work.

The Little Pause That Changed Everything

I recently took a much needed day off to visit Jupiter Artland in Edinburgh and it sparked a deep shift. Surrounded by art, play, nature and creativity, I felt home again, not just physically, but in that deep, intuitive sense of being aligned with my true self. Pure bloody relief!

Two things can be true at once: we can love adventure, people, and exciting projects and still desperately need quiet, rituals, and space to recharge.

Why Rest and Play Are Non-Negotiable

  1. Rest doesn’t always look like sleep.
It can be anything that feeds your soul: painting, journaling, walking, meditating, or even just sitting quietly with a cup of tea.

  2. Rest and play reset your nervous system.
Constant busyness keeps our sympathetic nervous system activated, leaving us tense, reactive, and stuck in survival mode. Pausing or playing sparks the parasympathetic system, helping us feel grounded, safe, and creatively alive.

  3. Action comes before feeling.
You don’t need to ‘feel inspired’ to act differently. By taking small, playful, or restful actions, you can shift your energy and open space for flow - and practicing this builds trust in yourself and your instincts

  4. Ruts are often self-made.
Repeating the same patterns produces the same results. Pausing, playing, and creating space resets your energy and invites new ideas.

5 Simple Ways to Reconnect with Your Flow

  1. Schedule solo time
Even 30 minutes a day of intentional alone time can do wonders for your intuition and creative clarity. Use this time to reflect, journal, or simply be with your thoughts, no distractions, no obligations. Over time, it becomes a mini reset for your nervous system, helping you notice what’s truly calling you.

  2. Try micro-rituals
Small daily rituals anchor your day and reconnect you with your creative energy. Light a candle, make a cup of tea mindfully, stretch, or sketch for five minutes. These little acts remind your nervous system that you’re safe, grounded, and open to inspiration, even on busy days.

  3. Play without purpose
Creativity thrives when it’s playful and pressure-free. Take an afternoon to experiment with a new art form, doodle, or dance around your living room. The goal isn’t productivity, it’s joy. This kind of play can spark ideas that flow into your work naturally.

  4. Check in with your energy
Pause throughout the day and ask yourself: “Am I running on inspiration or obligation?” Noticing your energy patterns helps you make better choices about what to focus on, when to rest, and when to lean into flow. This simple awareness is a huge step toward sustainable creativity.

  5. Take a “pause day”
Dedicate one day (or half a day) to rest, reflection, and doing things that nourish you. No meetings, no deadlines, no to-do lists, just space to breathe and reconnect with what matters. Often, the best ideas and insights come during these intentional pauses.

A Gentle Reminder for Creative Souls

Your business is only as healthy as your energy, creativity, and connection to yourself. Growth isn’t just about pushing harder; it’s about leaning into rest, play, and alignment.

Give yourself permission to pause, create, and play. Your best work and ideas often come when you allow space to breathe.
